Dangerous drugs Department
Mission:
To control the licit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for medical uses.
Responsibilities:
· Combat the non medical use of prescription medicines (narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances)
· Enforcement of the provisions of the Palestinian anti drug law and related regulations as they pertain to manufacture, distribution and dispensing of legally produced narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
· Participation in formulation of national drug policies, plans and anti drug legislations
· Participation in formulation of strategies and plans to build capacity in combating drug abuse and illicit traffic.
· Collaboration with different national departments and organizations dealing with combating drug abuse and illicit traffic
· Liason and collaboration with international organizations on matters relating to international drug programs
· Update of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance schedules based on international schedules released by INCB and local circumstances.
· Formulation and Update of SOPs and forms related to dangerous drugs department operations and responsibilities
· Preparation of annual reports on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (used and needed) quantities and sending to INCB.

Inspection of public medical institutions dealing with narcotic drugs
and psychotropic substances to check compliance with anti drug legislations
· Inspection of pharmaceutical manufactures dealing with narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to check compliance with anti drug legislations
· Release of pharmaceutical preparations Batch produced by local manufacturers
· Review and follow up of district pharmacists Inspection reports of pharmaceutical and medical institutions dealing with narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to check compliance with anti drug legislations
· Follow up of information and reports pertaining to narcotic drugs ,psychotropic substances ,drug abuse ,addiction prevention and treatment released by national and international organizations such as INCB,UNODC,WHO,POMPIDOU ,MedNET ,etc.
· Registration and accreditation of pharmaceutical and medical institutions to deal with narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances
· Registration and accreditation of physicians and pharmacists to deal with narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances
· Approval of narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances purchase permits submitted by private medical and pharmaceutical institutions.
· Distribution of dangerous drugs prescription forms to registered and accredited physicians
· Leading the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances disposal committees in private pharmaceutical and medical institutions.
